WIDE BRIM FEDORAS
Hold by the brim: Always pick up and handle your hat by the front and back of the brim, never by pinching or grabbing the crown. Grabbing the crown weakens the felt and ruins its stiffness.
Avoid water and heat: Never machine wash, submerge, or expose your fedora to direct heat sources like hair dryers, car dashboards, or radiators (which shrink and warp the material).
Felt Fedoras (Wool or Fur Felt)
Dust and Lint: Use a soft-bristle hat brush (or a lint roller). Brush counterclockwise on the top of the crown and clockwise along the brim to lift dust.
Water-Based Stains (Coffee, Mud, Tea): Blot immediately with a clean, dry white cloth. If needed, use a damp cloth with mild soap, then blot dry. Avoid rubbing.
Grease and Oil: Sprinkle cornstarch, talcum powder, or baby powder over the spot. Let it sit for 2 to 3 hours (or overnight) to absorb the oil, then brush it away.
Sweat or Salt Rings: Dab lightly with a cloth dampened with a 50/50 mixture of diluted white vinegar and water.
Drying & Shaping
Air Dry: If the hat gets caught in light rain, shake off excess water, gently blot with a towel, and let it air-dry naturally at room temperature.
Resting Position: Rest the hat upside down on its crown (or place it on a hat block/stand) so the wide brim does not flatten out or warp.
Restoring Stiffness: If a felt brim loses its crisp shape, lightly mist the underside of the brim with clean water or a light coat of spray starch, shape it by hand, and let it dry.
Storage
Long-Term Storage: Store your wide-brim fedora inside a dedicated hat box or on a clean flat surface with tissue paper stuffed inside the crown to support its structure.
Avoid Hanging: Avoid hanging a wide-brim hat on a narrow wall peg for extended periods, as it can cause a permanent dent in the sweatband or crown.
SNAPBACKS
Spot-clean stains: Mix a small amount of mild detergent with cool or lukewarm water. Dip a soft toothbrush or cloth into the solution and gently scrub the sweatband and soiled areas.
Air-dry only: Never put a snapback in the dryer. High heat warps the plastic brim and shrinks the fabric.
Maintain the silhouette: Stuff the crown with clean microfiber towels, plastic bags, or place the cap over an upturned bowl or hat shaper so it keeps its form while drying.
Keep out of direct sunlight: Let it dry completely in a well-ventilated, shaded room to prevent color fading.
Maintenance Tips
Storage: Store snapbacks on a shelf or hat rack rather than stacking heavy items on top of them.
Handle by the brim: Avoid crushing or bending the front panels when putting the hat on or taking it off.
LEATHER PRODUCTS/ SUEDE PRODUCTS
1. Cleaning
Test first: Always test any cleaner or conditioner on a hidden, discreet area first to check for discoloration.
Wipe regularly: Dust smooth leather weekly with a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth.
Deep clean: Twice a year (or as needed), apply a pH-balanced, leather-specific cleaner using a lint-free cloth or gentle brush in circular motions.
Avoid harsh chemicals: Never use harsh soaps, baby wipes, alcohol, or heavy-duty household chemicals, which strip natural oils and cause cracking.
2. Conditioning
Restore moisture: Leather is skin and loses natural oils over time; apply a quality leather conditioner every 3 to 6 months.
Application: Rub a small, coin-sized amount into the leather using clean hands or a microfiber cloth, let it absorb (overnight is best), and buff off any excess with a clean cloth.
Mind the color: Products like mink oil or heavy oils will significantly darken lighter leather, whereas neutral options preserve the original shade.
3. Drying and Storage
Air dry only: If leather gets wet, gently blot the excess water with a cloth and let it air dry naturally at room temperature. Never use a hair dryer, heater, or direct sunlight, which warps and cracks the material.
Maintain shape: Stuff wet or stored bags and shoes with acid-free tissue paper, newspaper, or cedar shoe trees to absorb moisture and keep their structure.
Store properly: Keep leather items in breathable dust bags or cotton pillowcases away from direct sunlight and plastic wrap.
JEWELRY
Gold and Platinum: Soak in warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap, brush gently around prongs with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry.
Silver: Polish with a specialized silver cloth or a baking soda paste, and store in anti-tarnish bags.
Diamonds and Hard Gems (Rubies, Sapphires): Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush; avoid harsh chemicals.
Pearls and Soft Stones (Emeralds, Opals): Wipe gently with a damp, soft cloth; never soak them or use ultrasonic cleaners.
Store separately: Keep pieces in individual soft pouches, fabric-lined boxes, or separate compartments to prevent scratching.
Keep chains fastened: Fasten clasps before storing necklaces to avoid tangles.
Control humidity: Store silver and metals in cool, dry areas with silica packets to stop tarnish.
